Volkswagen began building a new factory in China with a capacity of 300,000 cars per year.
The factory will be in the city of Foshan in the province of Guangzhou in southern China. This will be the tenth factory in China at VW in partnership with Chinese company FAW.
The new factory will start production in 2013.
“China has become the largest and most important market for Volkswagen Group”, said Martin Vinterkorn, president of the board of Volkswagen. He added that total investment group in China by 2012 will increase to 6 billion euros.
“Together with our partners we intend to maintain high growth of sales in China. With our unparalleled program we will double our production capacity in China to three million vehicles a year to 2013, “said Vinterkorn.
This year Volkswagen Group will launch on the Chinese market seven new or upgraded models. By 2012 on the Chinese market will be released 20 new models of the group. In 2013, China will start mass production of electric brand Volkswagen.
