The worldwide debut of the concept Volkswagen Up! Lite took place at motor show in Los Angeles. The Germans claim that it is the most economical four-seat car in the world. Up! Lite is a version of the conceptual L1 shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year.
The car is powered by two engines. One is the 0.8-liter two-cylinder turbo diesel engine with a 51 hp at 4000 rpm and 120 Nm of maximum torque from 1 800 to 2 250 rpm. The other unit is electric. It has a power of 14 hp and charges by lithium-ion battery. Total power of the hybrid propulsion system is 65 hp.
The car is equipped with other technologies by which it reduces the cost of fuel. Such are the system for the regeneration of braking energy system, stop/start system which switches off the engine when the car is stationary or the unit is idling and it starts as soon as the driver presses the clutch pedal and seven-gear automatic DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) transmission with double clutch. DSG transmission combines the advantages of manual and standard automatic transmission. The weight of the model is 695 kilograms while its fuel consumption is 2.44 L/100 km. Bad emissions are 65 g/km. It achieves an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.5 seconds. Its maximum speed is 160 km/h.
The design of the exterior is distinguished by clean lines. The style of the grille is not obtrusive. Rear of the car is with a sporty design. The roof is made of carbon fiber and has a weight of 3.3 kg.
In constructing the car is used primarily aluminum, steel and carbon fiber. Its length is 3.8 m, height – 1.4 m and width – 1.6 m. Wheel base is 2.45 meters. The car is equipped with electronic stability program (ESP) and one rear and two side cameras that replace the rear mirror.
The model has front fog lights, daytime LED lights, 18-inch wheels made of aluminum and carbon fiber and LED rear lights. Interior equipment includes touch screen technology, MP3 player, Internet access and telephone.
