Volkswagen is back to the WRC: In 2013 Volkswagen will start contesting the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with the Polo R WRC. After three consecutive victories at the Dakar Rally, Volkswagen has set itself new aims. By 2013 Volkswagen will develop a near-300-hp rally vehicle with a 1.6-litre TSI engine and four-wheel drive based on the Polo.
Efforts of the FIA to reduce the costs of the teams participating in various championships, began to show results. After Mini, a second brand decided to return to the WRC. The English company already made its debut in Rally Sardinia where just before the start, VW presnted its plans to participate in WRC 2013.
