On the eve of the Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen has officially announced the New Midsize Sedan (NMS) will be called the Passat in North America.
Volkswagen introduced new, more economical and environmentally friendly versions of the Passat CC and Scirocco – BlueMotion series.
They come with two two-liter diesel engines, respectively 140 and 170 hp. Both are combined with stop & start technology and a system for regeneration of energy used by the brakes.
According to information from Volkswagen, the average cost of a hatchback Scirocco with 140 hp power and mechanical transmission, in combined driving cycle fell in BlueMotion from 5 to 4.5 liters per 100 km.
In combination with DSG gearbox with two clutches and 6 degrees, the cost is lower than the current 5.5 to 5.0 liters per 100 km.
CO2 emissions are reduced in BlueMotion version in the mechanical transmission from 134 to 118 g / km.
In hatchback with 170 hp power average fuel consumption is now 5.1 liters per 100 km (before was 5.2 liters). Fuel consumption in the four-door coupe Passat CC BlueMotion with output of 140 hp was reduced to 4.7 liters per 100 km and emissions are 125 g/km. A more powerful modification with 170 hp has an average cost for combined cycle of about 5.0 liters per 100 km.
Sales of economical versions of the VW Scirocco and Passat CC already started on some European markets, the UK price of the VW Scirocco BlueMotion is 21 500 pounds and the VW Passat CC BlueMotion is 23,555 pounds.

VW Eos failed to win many fans and probably because of that the company is planing a light modernization of the model in 2011. But it will be the last. Today’s information states that in 2015 they will build a convertible edition of the VW Passat, which will replace the Eos.
VW Passat – most environment-friendly car
Version of the Volkswagen Passat driven by natural gas (methane) was named the most environmentally friendly European car. This was established by the Eco Test of FIA-(Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) where the Passat gets 92 points from the maximum 100.
A similar result was achieved only by the hybrid model of the Toyota – Prius.
