The Volkswagen Group Night is about each of the VW Group companies (VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti) showing concept or production cars that they plan to unveil at the auto show, giving press on-hand a sneak preview a day early.

The Germans promised that the car is designed so as to provide as much space for passengers as possible. Serial version of up! has a length of 3.54 m, width 1.64 m, height 1.48 m and wheelbase of 2.42 meters. The boot has a capacity of 251 liters, but when the rear seats are removed the cargo space can increase to 951 liters.

Engines of up! are two three-cylinder engines – 1-liter gasoline engine with BlueMotion (including stop/start system) and output of 60 hp or 75 hp. Fuel consumption is respectively 4.2l/100km and 4.3l/100km.

Subsequently, expected is a gas engine that will provide power of 68 hp. Otherwise up! moreover is offered with the option of City Emergency Braking – smart system that operates at speeds below 30 km/h and can “feel” of potential conflicts and automatically activate the brakes.

VW up! will be offered in three trim levels – trend, comfort and high. Sales will begin in December.

Isn’t it the small moments that make us happy? That can make an orinary day great? That make us feel like we’re floating? In September 2011, the time has come. The up! is on its way.

The international expert jury described De Silva as “the undisputed protagonist of Italian design” and awarded the prize for his 40-year career in the presence of members of ADI (Italian Association of Industrial Design), selected guests and the press.

The prize for the Compasso d’Oro Career is honored to both Italian and International citizens for their outstanding contributions in design, research, training, production and distribution.

With this year’s ADI awarded for the 22nd consecutive year with internationally recognized award from 1954 onwards. Along with the award Compasso d’Oro Career competent jury awarded the prize and other design objects, which reinforces the quality conscious Italian industrial design. The awards were presented in Rome this year on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.

Walter de Silva is responsible for the design of all VW brands since 2007. Throughout his career he has received several design awards, including “Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany” – the highest official design prize in Germany, awarded for the design of the Audi A5 in February 2010.

Interestingly, however, this will not happen on the Frankfurt Motor Show but at a special event in Paris.

Volkswagen confirmed that they will present a mini car on Monday night, August 22 at the Grand Palais. The palace in Secession style, built in 1900 on the banks of the Seine, will present Up! – a new small family by VW.

The car will be built in Bratislava, Slovakia, and Volkswagen don’t give any other details yet. But it is obvious that Paris is not chosen randomly. Until now, lords of the market in Europe of so-called microcars are precisely French and more accurate – models of the Renault Twingo, Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1. Certainly not to mention another major competitor of New Small Family – Fiat Panda.

At the beginning of sales VW Group will launch a three-door hatchback. In 2012 on the market will come out and five-door version. A year later we will see small MPV model, the same year will appear and the electric version, which will be branded Volkswagen and Audi. Initially the car will be sold with two three-cylinder engine. The new petrol engine 1.0 liters and power 44 kW petrol and 1.2 TDI (55 kW). A little later will appear petrol 1.0 TFSI (63 kW). The four-cylinder 1.2 TSI will also appear in Up! but later.

The Sportline package for the Transporter van can be ordered on both the panel van and kombi models and in both the short and long-wheelbase variants of those vehicles too. The sport line includes the 2.0 BiTDI diesel with 180 PS (132 kW/178 bhp) coupled to either a 6-speed manual transmission or the 7-speed DSG gearbox.

In the exterior VW added a gloss black grille with chrome trimming, revised headlights and a new color-coded front bumper with integrated fog lights. Also distinguishing the Transporter Sportline are the polished stainless-steel side bars, the smoked taillights and the rear roof spoiler. Wheels are the 18-inch Sportline 5-spoke alloys.

The Transporter Sportline offers paint finishes in Deep Black pearlescent, Reflex Silver metallic or Candy White with a gloss black roof (optional). The cabin gets an exclusive two-tone leather upholstery and gadgets such as the 7-inch touch-screen with full navigation features and Bluetooth connectivity.

Prices start at £28,220 (excluding VAT) and £30,100 (excluding VAT) for the panel van and kombi.

This is a new modification with Liquefied gas (LPG). Volkswagen Caddy BiFuel will offer all the advantages of a car running more than one fuel.

Running costs are low and the distance on a single tank (in the case of oil and gas) is great. Gas tank is located under the trunk floor but it can’t be said that significantly reduces the useful volume. Unlike many additional mounted gas installations that sometimes can be dangerous, factory installation in the case of Caddy BiFuel passed a crash test of Volkswagen company which ensure its safety.

The car has an engine with a volume of 1.6 liters. Power in the use of gas is 72 kW while with the use of gasoline is 75 kW. The combined cost of LPG e 10.3 liters per 100 km and the petrol is 8.0 liters per 100 km. Caddy BiFuel has a 44 liters tank gas tank and 60 liters of gasoline.

With two full fuel tanks the car can travel 1100 km. Only LPG distance would be 430 km. Overall emissions of CO2 are 10% lower than the standard car.Volkswagen Caddy BiFuel is priced starting at 17,625 euros in Germany.

Furthermore, engineers and designers in the new division and appointed psychologists who will evaluate the need for one or another innovation, and the way people perceive it.

Among the nearest tasks of the new structure of VW is the further development of the automatic parking of vehicles. The new generation system will be able to find a parking space in multiline parking the car will be able to return to the driver, which gives a signal to the mobile device.

Another task is to improve the navigation system based on Google Earth with Street View feature and sensors enable to see three-dimensional landscape.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Volkswagen Martin Winterkorn announced that the technology for battery recharging from the grid allows you to maintain the dynamic qualities of cars, while makes them cheaper.

The development of hybrid technologies is a priority in the automotive industry according to Winterkorn. Over these technologies are working engineers, scientists and politicians.

According to the plans of the German Government, in 2020 the country will have over 1 million electric vehicles. To promote new technologies in the automotive industry will be set aside several billion euro.

Volkswagen plans to sell annually about 300 000 electric and hybrid cars to 2018.

Now Volkswagen produces two hybrid models – SUV Touareg and sedan Jetta. By 2013 the company will sell two electric models – Up! and Golf.

At the conference Wiener Motorensymposium, Volkswagen presented the two new engines, as well as future plans for the introduction of alternative engines.

In Europe, the engine 1.4 TSI E85 will be intended for Passat and Passat CC. Version with 118 kW power will be combined with a gearbox with seven-gear DSG, according to industry average fuel consumption with this combination will be 8.8 liters per 100 km. CO2 emissions are 144 g/km.

This version will be available mainly in countries like Sweden and Finland, where the biofuel is very popular.

For the U.S. market Volkswagen prepares a special version of the second generation of two-liter diesel TDI. To common-rail system and a diesel particulate filter is added catalyst SCR. This engine will be installed on U.S. Passat NMS.
