Although the Alfa Romeo brand has luxury aesthetics, top-notch performance, and die-hard owners, the Fiat Group just can’t seem to make money on the brand. Time and again they have re-launched the Alfa Romeo, only to fall short at year’s end each time. In August 2010, reports indicated that Fiat was losing over $260 million annually on the brand. This prompted Volkswagen to offer a buyout deal to Fiat that would allow VW to take over the historic brand, based in Milan.
